2 Very Important SEO Factors
26 Jan 2012 | Post in : General
Google is and will always be updating its algorithm to keep up with its user’s expectations. Google bots are always on the lookout for websites that will “end search”
Search engines are always looking for websites that deliver value to the queries of its users, and it does this by looking at many parameters.
2 of the parameters that tell Google’s algorithm that it’s found a quality website are; time on site and page views.
So as website owners we have to always be looking for ways to make our visitors stay longer and browse through our site.
Time on Site
Most of us are very lazy and we don’t like to read much; especially on a computer screen, so it’s important that you format the text on your site in way that is more appealing.
The best way to do this is to avoid the BIG chunks of text; those large blocks of uninterrupted text that just by looking at them make you tired.
Divide your text in multiple paragraphs with no more than 4 lines. This kind of text layout is more appealing to the eye.
Also avoid making your text to wide, 60 to 75 characters wide text makes your text easier to read.
But all of the above is useless if your content is boring and not useful. Make your content engaging and action oriented in order to hook your readers.
Another great way to increase time on site is to integrate pictures or videos in your content. Make reference to the videos or pictures in your text to make your visitors watch them. Tell them to hit the play button to look at something you are trying to describe in your text.
Having useful content that is properly formatted and that it’s well complemented with videos or images will surely increase the time your visitors stay on your site.
Page Views
To increase page views you have to let your visitors know that you have more to offer than just the page they’ve landed on.
And there are many ways to do this, here are my favorite 5:
Make reference inside your content to other information on your site and hyperlink to it (this is also good for on page SEO)
Show your reader related posts at the end of your content. An easy way to do this in WordPress is with a free plugin called Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.
Divide your content in 2 or 3 pages and make the readers click through to read the entire article. If you use WordPress you can easily do this just by adding a Page-Link tag.
Use your sidebar to increase page views by showing your most popular posts or by displaying the most recent comments. In WordPress you can do both with these 2 plugins: WordPress Popular Posts and Get Recent Comments.
Create an image or video library and refer to it in your content with a hyperlink.
Making your visitor stay longer and browse through your site is not as difficult as it may seem. The most important thing to keep in mind is that your site must offer great user experience by providing USEFUL information in an engaging environment.
